East Dallas & Lakewood

The city's most architecturally varied quarter, from conservation districts and bungalow blocks to loft conversions.

An aerial view over the residential streets of East Dallas towards White Rock Lake, with the downtown skyline on the horizon.

East Dallas runs from Deep Ellum out toward White Rock, and it holds more distinct architectural periods than any other part of the city. Lakewood, on the eastern side, is the most settled of them — 1920s and 1930s houses on tree-lined streets around the country club. Closer in, conservation districts preserve intact early suburban blocks, and the loft conversions near Downtown and Haskell give the area a third, more urban character.

Character

  • Conservation districts protect the character of several streets, which matters if you intend to renovate or rebuild.
  • The range is unusually wide, from small bungalows to substantial period houses, so precise street knowledge counts for a lot.
  • Lakewood is the most established pocket, with larger period houses and a settled feel; the blocks nearer Downtown are denser and more mixed.

Housing stock

  • 1920s and 1930s Tudor, Colonial Revival and Craftsman houses, particularly in Lakewood and the conservation districts
  • Smaller bungalows and cottages on the blocks closer to Downtown
  • Converted loft and warehouse condominiums near Deep Ellum and Haskell
  • New townhome and small-lot infill where zoning allows

In this area

Harriet's record here includes the sale of a modern-farmhouse house on Terry Street and the sale of a renovated loft condominium on Office Parkway near Haskell and 75. Those two transactions sit at opposite ends of what East Dallas offers, and she has worked both.
